This past weekend was Memorial Day Weekend and we all know
that coming back to work from a three-day weekend is the WORST, so I wrote this on Tuesday morning before I got into my real work for my actual paying job...you know, to
get the creative juices flowing.
Anyway, this past weekend, my best friend,
Emily, and her BETROTHED came into town to spend the weekend in Charleston. They
just got engaged on Mother’s Day and Emily asked me to be her MOH, which I
happily accepted. But more on all that and my MOH duties/privileges later.
My college roommate, Downtown Katie Brown, also came to stay
with me and hang out for the long weekend. Saturday night, Katie and I went to
dinner with my bro, cousin, and David (Emily’s fiancĂ©) at Mex 1 Cantina in West
Ash. This place is amaaazzzingggggg. If you like the whole TexMex thing, skinny
margaritas, patio sitting, and mile high nachos—this place is for you. Additionally,
it often seems to be the local hangout for attractive young people.

On Sunday, ten of us went to the First Flush Festival on
Wadmalaw—a whole day filled with music, sweet tea vodka, margaritas, sunburns,
food trucks, lost sunglasses, dirty festival feet, and all the essentials of a
summer hangover. We had a good time, but it was a LONG day. We got there around
1:15 and stuck around JUST long enough to say we saw Sheryl Crowe perform (two
songs). #lifegoals #bucketlist
Like I said, we had a good time but it was $40 plus the
additional cash we spent on the myriad of food trucks and beer tents that
day. So it got pricey for some people (cough cough--all of us). We think next year we will just do pool
day or cookout at someone’s house. Same idea--food, friends, music, and
libations just at a more affordable price. This is of course contingent on who the headliner is next year for First
Flush. Obviously, it’s back on for us if the band is someone incredible that we
all want to see, like the Backstreet Boys.

Somewhere this week, I read about a run streak promoted
by Runner’s World that started on Memorial Day. The idea began as a way to help
you take your spring training into summer and keep you active among all
the cookouts, road trips, lazy beach days, extra guac, stiff liquor drinks, new
tank tops, gold jewelry, puppies, oh wait… sorry those last three things were
just things that I enjoy. I got a little confused about what I was listing, but
you catch my drift. To participate in the streak, all you have to do is run at
least one mile a day for 41 days. This will take you all the way to
The Fourth of July. I might try to do this just because it seems fun and it will encourage me to be more active on social media which is always fun, especially when it comes to the running community in my opinion. I always like seeing other runners posts and pictures. It's motivating and just plain cool. It won't be that hard for me to run on my normal rest days, but I do worry a bit about losing that recovery time. I might try it for awhile and see how it goes. I'll keep you posted. #literally
Want to be a streaker? Join the challenge and encourage other streakers by “liking” the
streak on Facebook and sharing updates on Twitter and Instagram using the
hashtag #RWRunStreak. Check out the
FAQ page.
Here are 7 tips to help have a successful Run Streak this summer. One that I really liked was "Streaking isn't about fast times everyday. It's about committing to yourself to run everyday in a healthy manner." I'll have to keep that in mind if I do this. Just get the mile in. Just get the mile in.
